Israel-Palestine after the Gaza war and the role of the EU (B8-0112/2014, B8-0113/2014, B8-0116/2014, RC-B8-0117/2014, B8-0117/2014, B8-0139/2014, B8-0140/2014, B8-0141/2014)

Glenis Willmott (S&D), in writing. – This resolution calls for the EU to participate in the rebuilding of Gaza and provision of urgent humanitarian aid to the population of the Gaza strip after the recent Gaza war ended with a ceasefire in August. The role of Egypt in brokering the ceasefire was commendable, and the involvement of other key regional actors should be encouraged. The resolution also states that the current situation in Gaza is unsustainable, and reiterates support for a two-state solution and the removal of the blockade in Gaza. Labour MEPs supported this resolution because we believe that the EU should play a key role in rebuilding Gaza and providing aid, and that the two-state solution is the only way to ensure lasting peace and security for the Israeli and Palestinian people.
