  Ana Gomes (S&D). - Mr President, we are going to vote on the urgent resolutions on human rights, but there is also another case that I would like to call to the attention of the President of Parliament. An urgent intervention is required to stop the flogging of Raif Badawi in Saudi Arabia. This is illegal. This is barbaric. This is medieval.

(Sustained applause)

  Der Präsident. - Das war offenbar kein Einwand gegen das Protokoll von gestern.

Das Protokoll der gestrigen Sitzung ist genehmigt.

  Elmar Brok (PPE). - Herr Präsident! Ich möchte mich bei Frau Mogherini bedanken. Von gestern Mittag bis letzte Nacht um 23.00 Uhr und ab heute Morgen hat sie dem Plenum zur Verfügung gestanden. Das ist nicht selbstverständlich.

Als zweiten Punkt, Herr Präsident, möchte ich Sie bitten, im Präsidium zu erörtern, ob wir die außenpolitischen Debatten nicht konzentrierter führen können und nicht ewige Einzeldebatten haben, sondern alle zwei Monate eine klare Debatte konzentriert, aber nicht über mehrere Stunden jedes Einzelthema mit einer neuen Debatte.

Ich glaube, das würde diesem Hause dienen, Frau Mogherini dienen und auch der Außenwirkung dieses Hauses dienen. Wir sollten das einmal überlegen.

  Der Präsident. - Vielen Dank, Herr Brok! Wir nehmen das zur Kenntnis. Ich korrigiere den Vorsitzenden des Auswärtigen Ausschusses nur ungern, aber die Vizepräsidentin der Kommission und Hohe Vertreterin war hier gestern nicht bis elf Uhr, sondern fast bis Mitternacht. Insofern ist dieser Punkt in der Tat bemerkenswert. Der Dank des Parlaments gilt Ihnen!

  Anna Maria Corazza Bildt (PPE). - Mr President, many of us have been wondering why we did not vote yesterday but are voting today. Statistically, Wednesday is the day when most Members are present, so this is a matter of democratic legitimacy. If this trend should continue – and it is absolutely possible that we will have less to vote on – I would ask Parliament to assess the cost of working here when we could hold the debates somewhere else. We do not want to work less; we want to work more efficiently.

(Applause)

  President. - Thank you very much, and indeed I myself have been wondering about this. The reason is that the political groups have decided on the dates and times for the submission of resolutions and amendments that made it impossible to vote on these resolutions that we vote today. Let me say, however, that as the Vice-President in charge of human rights, I am very satisfied that we will vote on the urgency resolutions now with a large presence. I think this underlines the role of this Parliament as a defender of human rights.
