Dimitris Avramopoulos, Member of the Commission. Mr President, the Commission would like to highlight the reasons for the Commission Delegated Regulation repealing Regulation No 2336/2003 on the ethanol market. The Commission adopted this delegated regulation in the framework of its Better Regulation and simplification agenda. This Commission delegated act will remove administrative burdens for operators and administrators without affecting our border protection, allowing the Commission to continue monitoring the ethanol market in the European Union more efficiently.

At its meeting of 20 April 2015, the Council confirmed it had no objection to the Commission delegated regulation and the Commission made a statement to confirm that it will continue to collect the necessary data for monitoring the ethanol market, with particular attention to imports at zero duty.

The Commission invites the European Parliament to reject the motion of objection to the Commission delegated regulation. This will allow the publication of the regulation in the Official Journal of the European Union and its entry into force. This is an opportunity for the European Parliament to align itself with the objective of reducing red tape for European citizens and business and of simplifying European legislation, a shared responsibility to which the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission have committed together. The Commission confirms its commitment to a Better Regulation agenda as illustrated by the Better Regulation package adopted by the College.
