Doru-Claudian Frunzulică (S&D), in writing. ‒ Oceans and seas can be source of growth, jobs, food, medicine and energy while protecting ecosystems for generations to come if they are managed in a responsible and sustainable manner. However, in order to make this possible, more research, knowledge, skills and data about our seas and oceans are needed. New technology, for example to counteract the degradation of marine ecosystems, or to capture and store carbon emissions, plays an important role. I support the importance of an integrated and coordinated approach and the need to consider the potential of Carbon Capture and Storage, but in a balanced manner; I believe that the Commission should further analyse how the technology and its accompanying infrastructure to transport the CO2 safely and in a cost effective manner can be applied in an economically viable way.
