Afzal Khan (S&D), in writing. ‒ I voted in favour of this report, which aims at developing a better scientific knowledge base for our seas and oceans and at a greater ability to use, manage and conserve the resources of our seas, oceans and coastal areas. A better management of our blue economy is key to several of our society challenges, including developing sustainable energy sources and energy independence. The focus of the EU actions should be on creating sustainable growth and employment in the marine and maritime economy, and generating growth in areas such as developing offshore renewable energy technologies or supporting research into the blue biotechnology sector.
