Doru-Claudian Frunzulică (S&D), in writing. We must ensure that clear and unambiguous rules are set to provide legal certainty for Member States which want to restrict the use of GM food and feed in order to respond to the concerns raised by citizens.

The Commission proposal is not acceptable, especially considering the non-existence of an impact assessment, the incompatibility of Member State opt-out measures with internal market and WTO rules, the failure to ensure legal certainty, and the weak prospects for the proposal actually being implemented.

Citizens’ concerns about GMOs have to be taken into account today, as our main priority in this matter is the health and safety of European citizens. It must be up to the citizens to choose Europe’s future food and agricultural model and to refuse GMOs if they do not wish to have them on their table.
