Lieve Wierinck (ALDE), in writing. – I strongly endorse this parliamentary resolution. Today, space is closer to us than ever before. As a consequence, human activity in space is rapidly increasing. Technological and scientific developments within this field have brought us many important innovations and will continue to do so. But, this also comes with security implications. As we become more dependent on, for example; satellites, we also become more vulnerable. For example, without the proper security, self-driving cars would become vulnerable to hackers.

This resolution calls for increased investment in space technology, security of this technology, legal solutions to conflicts that might come up in the future, and an international code of conduct to prevent these. I agree that the EU’s diplomatic services and the EEAS can play an important role herein. Finally, I welcome the resolution’s call for EU-US cooperation as we surely will be able to accomplish more if we cooperate.
