  Monica Macovei (ECR). – Doamna președintă, traficul de droguri, traficul de ființe umane, terorismul, criminalitatea informatică sunt comise la nivel transfrontalier de grupuri care își desfășoară activitatea în mai multe state. De aceea, Eurojust are un rol esențial pentru o reală cooperare și coordonare dintre autoritățile judiciare din statele membre și, de asemenea, în sprijinirea anchetelor în care sunt implicate state terțe.

Noul regulament trebuie să sporească eficiența Europol și să clarifice limitele dintre Europol și Parchetul European, creat așa încât să asigure o bună cooperare între cele două.

  Seán Kelly (PPE). – Madam President, I welcome the support and the steps being taken to secure criminal justice cooperation across the EU and I thank my colleague, Axel Voss, for his good work, as always.

As criminals continue to use more and more sophisticated methods, so too must our criminal justice actors, and to this end, I’m encouraged by the reinforcement of Eurojust’s role in fighting transnational crime. Should crimes such as terrorism, cybercrime, human trafficking and money laundering, continue to rise across our borders, it will be essential that Eurojust can exchange more information with Member States and provide sufficient data protection.

I support the introduction of a new executive board, which will enable increased efficiency for Eurojust, and plans for regular reporting to European and national parliaments. These efforts will be increasingly important to my constituents in Ireland and constituents right across the European Union, so I am very glad to see this progress in the EU’s criminal justice cooperation.
