European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) (debate)

Soraya Post (S&D), rapporteur for the opinion of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. – Mr President, our main goal in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) was to ensure that the ESF+ becomes a tool to protect, develop and empower people. We wanted to ensure that future projects will be as inclusive and non-discriminatory as possible, that they will enable everybody in the EU to have better life prospects, and that, through this fund, we can stop maintaining systems of discrimination and exclusion and show that we take very seriously the values we set jointly in our Treaties. We wanted, with the help of this fund, to achieve the transformation of our society into a sustainable society, something to which we committed ourselves by signing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Let me finish by expressing my gratitude to the rapporteur, Ms Lope Fontagné, and also to Brando Benifei for their excellent cooperation during the shadow rapporteurs’ meetings.
