  Michaela Šojdrová (PPE). – Pane předsedající, podpořila jsem zprávu o systému všeobecných celních preferencí. Souhlasím s významem tohoto systému, který je nástrojem k podpoře snižování chudoby v méně rozvinutých zemích skrze mezinárodní obchod. Souhlasím s doporučením pro budoucí revizi stávajícího systému. Oblastí, na kterou bychom se měli zaměřit, je postavení žen v zemích, které podporu skrze systém všeobecných celních preferencí získávají. Zdůraznila bych situaci žen a také lidských práv. Navzdory tomu, že tento systém již přispěl ke zlepšení ekonomického postavení žen, mnoho žen je stále ještě terčem diskriminace a pracovní podmínky nejsou vyhovující. Proto důležitým doporučením, které zpráva obsahuje, je rovněž podpora a důraz na ochranu životního prostředí v těchto zemích.

  Julie Ward (S&D). – Mr President, the EU is continuously improving its policies on human rights and trade agreements. Our Generalised Scheme of Preferences for Trade Tariffs sits within a broader human rights policy. It underlines the potential of GSP+ schemes to promote human rights, equality and sustainable development and the eradication of child and forced labour.

The European Parliament’s report on GSP recognises the potential of the scheme and highlights the shortcomings of the GSP+ schemes and calls for improvements. This is in line with our support for the UN’s binding mechanism on human rights in trade agreements, as voted in this Parliament last October.

Whilst the EU could and should do so much more to promote respect for human rights in trade agreements, this will not be made easier by a weakening of the Union. Equally, outside of the EU, the UK will be toothless in its negotiations for fair trade. And as we already know, the hard Brexiteers want trade at any price.
