Neena Gill, Rapporteur. – Mr President, I requested two minutes to speak and just brief honourable Members on the sustainable benchmark legislation. According to the OECD, EUR 6.2 billion are needed globally to make our economy more sustainable and to limit global warming to 2°. With this in mind, the report introduces two new types of benchmarks and encourages investments to be channelled towards those who are on a decarbonisation trajectory. It reduces the risk of greenwashes and obliges all benchmark administrators to disclose how they are aligned with the ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria.

Sustainability is a multifaceted concept. However, some aspects like diversity are often neglected. I recall the first time I spoke in the Chamber; it was with President Nicole Fontaine. Twenty years later, surprisingly, she remains the one and only female President of this House. Shocking. We claim to be global leaders when it comes to equality. Many female Members of this House leave to become Ministers, Prime Ministers, Commissioners, yet in these 20 years we’ve had no female Commission President, we’ve had no female President of the European Parliament, and we’ve had no female leader of the big political groups.

It is highly unlikely I will be here in the ninth legislature, but I would urge this House to ensure that we address this injustice. The credibility of this Parliament depends on it. Like climate change, it is a race we can win. We can overcome gender inequality and make our political system more sustainable and diverse.

If I may beg the indulgence of this Chamber for a few more seconds, given this could be my last plenary, it has been an honour and a privilege to serve in this House with so many passionate colleagues from across the Chamber. Brexit, I believe, is a colossal mistake, and I fear for the future of my constituents and future generations. As a committed European, I regret the path …

(The President cut off the speaker)

Presidente. – Onorevole Gill, per favore, abbiamo bene inteso quello che lei vuole dire. La ringrazio ma ci sono presidenti di gruppo donna, c'è l'on. Ska Keller, c'è l'on. Gabriele Zimmer che sono presidenti.
