President. – Good evening colleagues. I beg your forgiveness for a slightly late start to the session. The President, as many colleagues, is delayed and makes his apologies to colleagues. Many of us had some flight issues. My flight tried to land twice in Basel and failed, but it did land in Strasbourg, which is why I am here. So that was a happy relief for me, but obviously I know other colleagues have had difficult journeys. And bear with me, because I have literally just received the files and I will do my very best.

I want to make an announcement please. On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance which is commemorated today, I would like to honour the memory of the Italian victims and all the victims of the Foibe massacres and the exodus of Istrians, Rijekans and Dalmatians from their land during and after the Second World War. The defence of democracy and tolerance and our daily commitment to European values are the best tribute to all those who are victims of these tragedies. The transition from opposing power blocs to a union for peace shows how important it is to continue working together for a Europe that puts values and respect for all its citizens in first place. Dear colleagues, we will stand for a moment in silence.
