Rule 144
Ioan-Rareş Bogdan (PPE)
The number of children and adolescents from eastern EU countries who develop cardiovascular conditions, obesity and poor posture is growing by one third each year.
Professional medical associations in these countries are warning that parents are buying cheap foods from countries outside the EU containing ingredients from various non-EU countries. These products and ingredients are of inferior quality and do not comply with the EU’s strict food safety standards.
- 1.What policies is the Commission considering to reduce the number of sick children who are the victims of the gap in living standards between eastern and western EU countries?
- 2.What measures is the Commission considering to protect the single market from poor-quality food products?
