Frontex contingents at airports

Question for written answer E-003138/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Özlem Demirel (The Left)
With the establishment of a permanent management location in the form of a Frontex contingent in Prague, part of the agency’s operational management is being transferred from its headquarters in Warsaw to a regional level for the first time. The airport contingent’s management will coordinate future operations in up to 10 Member States, including countries with no EU external borders. The new structure raises questions about the division of competences, coordination with national authorities and operational responsibility.
- 1.How many airport contingents does Frontex have? How big are they, where are they located and for which countries is each responsible?
- 2.To what extent do they form part of the ‘standing corps’ and what is the timetable for changes planned in this respect?
- 3.How is operational cooperation between the Prague contingent and the national authorities of the Member States concerned regulated – particularly with regard to operational planning, personnel management and operational control?
