The Commission together with the Presidency has raised the matter at the appropriate level with the Israeli authorities and has expressed concern over any unilateral step which might change the status quo in Jerusalem.
Following an opinion formulated by the Israeli Attorney General, the Israeli Government has suspended the enforcement of the Absentee Property Law (enacted in 1950), therefore reverting to the situation before the relevant Israeli Cabinet resolution adopted in July 2004.
The Commission together with the Member States will continue to follow-up closely any development in this respect.
