Subject: Measures to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease by improving the minimum standards for patient care
 Answer in writing

Cardiovascular disease is the greatest health problem in Europe and one of the main causes of mortality in EU countries. Each year, cardiovascular disease costs the EU economy an estimated EUR 192 billion and causes the death of over 2 million people in the European Union (according to the 2008 edition of ‘European cardiovascular disease statistics’, published by the University of Oxford).

There are currently wide disparities between EU countries when it comes to reducing cardiovascular disease. According to the conclusions of the 2009 Euroheart conference, some countries are making progress in reducing the incidence of cardiovascular disease and associated deaths, while other countries are moving in the opposite direction.

How will you address this problem of the disparities in the reduction of the incidence of cardiovascular disease between the countries that are making progress and those that are lagging behind? Do you intend to propose an action plan concerning the procedures, results achieved and rehabilitation of patients affected by this disease?
