Question for written answer E-010280/2010
to the Commission
Rule 117
Elena Oana Antonescu (PPE)

Subject: Buyers' rights in electronic commerce
 Answer in writing

At this time of financial crisis, European citizens are spending an increasing amount of time perusing online offers, seeking bargains. For consumers, the advantages of online shopping are that they can choose from a wider range of products, saving both time and money.

The faith that consumers have in online purchasing depends on factors such as the risk of buying counterfeit products, the protection of personal data and unfair commercial practices. 60 % of websites selling tickets for sports or cultural events provide incomplete information on prices and fail to apply contract terms correctly or to provide a postal address for the seller.

What coordinated efforts is the Commission making to improve the rights of consumers of products and services obtained through e-commerce?
