Question for written answer E-010618/2010
to the Commission
Rule 117
Siiri Oviir (ALDE)

Subject: Allocation of direct contracts by OPAP — a matter of possible corruption
 Answer in writing

I have been informed by a Greek citizen that in July 2010 OPAP of Greece directly allocated a contract worth millions to a company called Intralot. This was done directly, without tendering and in rather non-transparent circumstances. It is alleged that, this contract will be highly damaging, in economic terms, to the Greek tax payer. The motives for this allocation may be seen to be suspect. Could the Commission ask the Greek authorities to reassure us that this allocation was done in the best interests of the Greek public and that no corruption whatsoever was involved in such allocation.
