to the Commission

 Subject: INDECT project
 Answer in writing

I have been contacted by a constituent who has read about the INDECT project (Intelligent information system supporting observation, searching and detection for security of citizens in urban environment). He has read that the main objectives of this project are to develop a policy for the registration and exchange of operational data, acquisition of multimedia content, smart processing of all data, detection of threats and understanding of abnormal behaviour or violence.

Can the Commission confirm:

1. the proposed cost of the project;
2. who is responsible for security of the data;
3. who can access the data once it is collated;
4. in what way those responsible for the project are accountable to Parliament;
5. what restrictions are in place on who can access the data once accumulated;
6. what provisions exist to prevent the leaking of information;
7. what has been provided to the project by the University of York;
8. What provisions are in place to guarantee the privacy of those monitored?
