Fresh attacks on Spanish strawberries

Question for written answer E-3601/2010
to the Commission
Rule 117
Salvador Garriga Polledo (PPE)

Spanish strawberries have again come under attack from farmers in the Member States, as well as from Switzerland, on the grounds that it is not the strawberry season.

Switzerland has embarked on a particularly virulent campaign seeking to mobilise opposition to Spanish strawberries among both farmers and consumers and resorting to lies and false allegations about the treatment received by the foreign workers who help to pick the Spanish strawberry crop.

Will the Commission say whether it has taken, or intends to take, any action vis-à-vis the Swiss authorities to protest about the attacks made on Spanish strawberries and to protect the product against further unwarranted attacks from other farmers in the European Union?
