Question for written answer E-7869/2010
to the Commission
Rule 117
Cristiana Muscardini (PPE)
On 30 June a dog which had fallen overboard from a Moby Lines ship on which it was travelling with its owners was left to drown because the captain did not stop the ship to rescue it, despite repeated requests from the passengers.
1. In the light of the above incident will the Commission indicate whether the maritime code in the other EU Member States includes animal rescue.
2. Does the Commission not consider that the obligation to provide assistance to animals which is laid down in the new highway code should be extended to the maritime code?
