Question for written answer E-8145/2010
to the Commission
Rule 117
Daciana Octavia Sârbu (S&D)
Can the Commission give estimates regarding timber imports from Latin America and how they may be affected by the entry into force of the regulation laying down the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on market?
Specifically:
- —what proportion of timber imported from Latin America is currently thought to be illegal?
- —is the regulation likely to stop a significant proportion of these imports?
- —will additional demands be placed on the EU forestry industry as a result of reduced imports from Latin America and other regions, and does the industry have the capacity to cope with such an increase in demand?
