E-006039/2014(ASW)
Answer given by Ms Kroes on behalf of the Commission
Question reference: E-006039/2014

‘Virtual Physiological Human’ is one of the domains of activity of the DG for Communications Networks, Content and Technology who collaborate with the DG for Research and Innovation.

In the recently approved updated version of the Work Programme 2014-2015 there are two topics that are within the scope ‘in silico medicine’: PHC 28 and PHC 30.

PHC 28: ‘Self-management of health and disease and decision support system based on predictive computer modelling used by the patient him or herself.’

PHC 30: ‘Digital representation of health data to improve disease diagnosis and treatment.’

The budget committed is EUR 20 million per each.

For the Work Programme 2016-2017 the Commission intends to further support development of ‘in silico’ models and methods. At this stage the input to be proposed to the Work Programme with respect to personalized medicine will be the subject of further consultations and agreements.
