The SUNNY project intends to use the following three Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs):
- —The ‘Skeldar V-200’ produced by SAAB (Sweden). This is a small, unmanned mobile system with Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) capability.
- —The ‘Penguin B UAV’ produced by UAV Factory Ltd (Latvia). It is a small (3.3m wingspan) fixed wing UAV.
- —The ‘Atlantic’ produced by Everis Aerospace and Defence (Spain). This is a medium range fixed wing (3.8m wingspan) UAV.
The trials are due to take place between September and December 2016. Only the project partners are involved.
SUNNY will be testing infra-red sensors produced by Xenics nv, hyper-spectral sensors produced by SPECIM Spectral Imaging Ltd, and min-SAR produced by MetaSensing BV.
It should be noted that SUNNY is a research project. It does not prejudge further technological and capability-related choices to be made, including with regard to whether or not the results of the project would be further used in Eurosur in the mid-to long-term.
