Question for written answer E-008735-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Antonio Tajani (PPE) , Giovanni Toti (PPE)

Subject:  Serious problems facing the AST steelworks in Terni
 Answer in writing

1. What initiatives do the new European Commissioners for competition and industry intend to take to deal with the problems facing the AST steelworks in Terni and prevent any repeat of episodes such as the workers’ demonstration which took place on 29 October 2014 in Rome?

2. Does the Commission not think that it should intervene to avert a dangerous increase in social tensions in Terni by initiating a debate on the current competition rules that have led indirectly to the downsizing of the AST steelworks?

3. Does the Commission not think that it should oversee the application by Thyssen Krupp of the company's industrial plan, not least with a view to ensuring that it is implemented fairly in all the Member States?
