Border between Spain and Gibraltar

Question for written answer E-009810-14
to the Commission
Rule 130
Josep-Maria Terricabras (Verts/ALE)

The Spanish Government obstructs free movement between Spain and Gibraltar, artificially increasing queues and security measures, when political negotiations between London and Madrid get tough. This political pressure is affecting citizens and the EU has to respond to that.

Several groups of Spanish and British citizens have protested to the relevant institutions, but without obtaining any response other than a denial of the evidence. The European Union has denied that there are political reasons for the action taken by the Spanish customs.

1. Does the new Commission not agree that this unjust treatment of citizens needs to be remedied?

2. What measures will the Commission take to prevent the queues and long waits endured by thousands of workers who move between Línea de la Concepcíon and Gibraltar?
