E-010359/2014(ASW)
Answer given by Vice-President Mogherini on behalf of the Commission
Question reference: E-010359/2014

Freedom of the media is a key feature of democracy and any journalist shall be able to perform work free of harrassment and intimidation.

The abduction of Sergei Dolgov (and alleged killing) is a serious crime and is totally unacceptable. The Ukrainian authorities must thorougly investigate the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The EU is fully supportive of the position of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of Media with regard to this case and will monitor the state of play of the investigations, in close cooperation with the OSCE.

Involvement of the authorities in the abductions of journalists cases is a serious assertion which needs to be proved by evidences.
