The REACH authorisation aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemical industry. However, there are claims that, to achieve this target with regard to certain substances, certain measures other than the authorisation can be used.
For cases where risk in the workplace is the only risk identified under REACH, has the Commission considered, as an alternative to an authorisation, setting an occupational exposure limit (OEL) to reduce workplace exposure and enhance worker protection?
