E-002953-15
Question for written answer E-002953-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Daciana Octavia Sârbu (S&D)

 Subject:  Type 1 diabetes
 Answer in writing

Diabetes currently affects around 9% of the adult population in the European Union and a growing number of children. Type 2 diabetes in children is due principally to obesity and increasingly alarming statistics reveal that currently one-fifth of children in the EU are overweight.

Unfortunately, however, insufficient information is available as to the causes of increased type 1 diabetes among children.

In view of this:

Can the Commission say what funding is being earmarked under the current financial framework for research into type 1 diabetes, particularly among children?
