Allocation of EU funding to associations linked to the Muslim Brotherhood

Question for written answer E-008736-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Frédérique Ries (ALDE)
Since the 1950s, members and supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood have taken up residence in various European countries and have set up numerous associations. The scale of this hidden but highly influential network is unknown and the values it stands for are largely at odds with democratic principles.
A number of articles which have appeared in the Belgian press recently suggest that Belgium is home to a loose alliance of bodies linked to the Muslim Brotherhood which is active throughout Europe and which could include the following associations:
- — European Muslim Network (EMN),
- — Forum of European Muslim Youth and Students Organisation (FEMYSO),
- — European Network Against Racism (ENAR),
- — Empowering Belgian Muslims (EmBem).
I am concerned about the nature of the subsidies received by these associations.
Can the Commission say whether they receive EU funding, either directly or indirectly? If they do, what are the annual amounts involved?
