Unlawful arrest and detention of Ukrainian citizens

Question for written answer E-013704-15
to the Commission
Rule 130
Roger Helmer (EFDD)

Is the Commission aware of the repeated cases in which Ukrainian citizens have been arrested and held by Russian authorities, and in some cases subjected to trumped-up charges in what amount to show trials?

In particular, is the Commission following the case of Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko, who was tried in Donetsk in September, having reportedly been smuggled by pro-Russian rebels and allegedly ‘sold’ to the Russians?[1]

Is it also following the case of film-maker Oleg Sentsov and anti-fascist campaigner Oleksandr Kolchenko, who were jailed after a show trial in a Russian military court[2]?

What action does the Commission propose to take to remonstrate with Russia for these actions, and to secure the release of these Ukrainian citizens?
