LIFE programme funds and the Black Sea Sturgeon

The Commission’s Implementing Decision on the adoption of the LIFE multiannual work programme for 2014-2017[1] (Annex III, (b) Thematic priorities for Biodiversity, point 3, of the LIFE Regulation) records projects targeting threatened species with a status of ‘endangered’ or worse in the European Red Lists or in the IUCN Red List.

The fish species Acipenser Gueldenstaedtii, commonly known as the Black Sea Sturgeon, is listed in the IUCN Red List as Critically Endangered, but is not listed on the European Red Lists.

Could LIFE programme funds be used to protect, repopulate the waters, and help the Acipenser Gueldenstaedtii recover?
