Answer given by Mr Vella on behalf of the Commission
Question reference: E-004068/2016

The Commission is aware of the importance for Member States to ensure appropriate resources and mechanisms to enforce nature protection legislation and to fight poaching.

As regards Italy, in the framework of an investigation procedure, the Commission has already asked Italy to provide clarifications inter alia on the current and future activities concerning controls, fighting poaching and monitoring hunting.

The investigation case is still open and the exchanges with Italian authorities are ongoing.
