Answer given by Mr Andriukaitis on behalf of the Commission

The Commission refers the Honourable Member to its answer to Question E-000429/2016[1]. The Commission also refers the Honourable Member to the reply given by the Commission during the Plenary Session of the European Parliament on 5 October 2016, in response to the report of the Implementation of the Food Contact Materials Regulation[2].
With respect to printed food contact materials, the Commission is of the opinion that the health of consumers is not adequately safeguarded. Therefore the Commission intends to develop suitable legislation on printing inks as soon as possible. The scope of this legislation may also cover other materials, particularly paper and cardboard.
