VP/HR — Imprisonment and torture of a Sahrawi activist
26.10.2016
Question for written answer E-008015-16
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Miguel Viegas (GUE/NGL)
Mohamed Daoudi was detained by the Moroccan authorities on 5 October 2016 in Guelmim, in southern Morocco, and taken to the police station where he was brutally tortured until he fell into a coma. Mohamed Daoudi is the son of Embarek Daoudi, who is currently being held in a Moroccan prison.
Mohamed Daoudi was released on 7 October after more than 42 hours of torture and interrogation. On leaving prison he went straight to hospital where he was denied medical attention in spite of his extreme weakness. He was not admitted to hospital for medical tests until the following day, after losing consciousness at home.
Mohamed Daoudi was not informed of any charges and was not given the right to contact a legal representative after his arrest. He is currently under medical supervision at home and his condition is still very weak.
What view does the High Representative take of this further example of impunity and arbitrary criminal violence? Will she make enquiries with the Moroccan authorities in relation to this case?
