E-004201/2017(ASW)
Answer given by Mr Andriukaitis on behalf of the Commission
Question reference: E-004201/2017

In the 2007 Commission Guidance on the implementation of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods(1), the term ‘probiotic’ is considered as implying a health benefit and should therefore be classified as a health claim and not as a nutrition claim. The Commission is not intending to change this classification.
