A single EU car pollution sticker

Question for written answer E-006990-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Anne Sander (PPE)

More and more EU countries are responding to environmental problems by introducing stickers which indicate how pollutive a car is according to a numbered scale. In France, the ‘Crit’Air’ sticker is mandatory in Paris and Grenoble, and soon will be in Lille and Strasbourg too (2018).

Sticker schemes ensure that the most polluting vehicles cannot be used every day and that, when pollution levels spike, only the least polluting cars are allowed on the road.

France, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Denmark all have their own stickers.

Now that Europe’s roads are border-free, the problems drivers face in finding out about and obtaining stickers, and then fitting them all onto one windscreen, are becoming a major headache.

Replacing these stickers with one single European sticker would make life much easier for European drivers in general, and those who regularly drive across borders in particular.

Is the Commission planning to introduce a single EU car pollution sticker?
