EU-China trade relations

Question for written answer E-007207-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
France Jamet (ENF)
China’s steel production overcapacity is threatening to kill off Europe’s struggling steel industry.
China subsidies its industries very heavily. In the European Union, Member States are banned from doing this.
China is also unwilling to negotiate a genuine agreement on protected geographical indications and it is clear that if Brussels were to grant it market economy status it would no longer be possible to apply anti-dumping measures to China.
Does the Commission want to protect the Member States’ industries, or please China?
