Question for written answer E-007672-17
to the Commission
Rule 130
Ulrike Müller (ALDE) , Jan Huitema (ALDE)

 Subject:  Animal transport
 Answer in writing

1. How many times were live animals transported (by species) from the EU to third countries such as Turkey or to North Africa over the past few years (1995‐2017)?

2. EU legislation on animal transport and animal welfare still applies when the animals arrive at their destination, even if this is outside the EU. How does the Commission ensure EU standards are maintained when these animals are transported to or via third countries (in terms of breaks, drinking troughs, slaughtering)?

3. Is the Commission considering reducing exports of animals for slaughter to third countries and exporting more animals that have been slaughtered in the EU and their frozen meat instead of transporting live animals?
