In the light of the upcoming presidential elections in Cuba in 2018, it is of paramount importance that international electoral standards, and the right to free access to media and information, as well as to freedom of expression and association, are upheld.

The EU and Cuba are currently working on the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement (PDCA), with provisional application having started in November 2017.

Will there be repercussions for the PDCA and its full application if the Cuban presidential election are not transparent and/or are undemocratic?

How does the EU intend to contribute to ensuring a transparent election in Cuba?
