Implementation in Romania of Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) projects

Question for written answer E-001795-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Marian-Jean Marinescu (PPE)

The CEF is now in its fifth year. Romania has projects ongoing that are being financed both through funding allocated under the CEF and through funding transferred to the CEF under the cohesion policy. The projects being implemented are extremely important for the modernisation of the national rail transport infrastructure and for the completion of European transport corridors. The implementation rate is important both as regards meeting those objectives and as regards the take‐up of the funding allocated.

What is the state of play in the implementation of these projects, particularly as regards meeting the deadlines set, and what overruns of deadlines might result in the funding allocated being decommited?

What steps has the Commission taken under the technical assistance programme to ensure that the projects are implemented to the set deadlines and that technical standards are met?
