Sustainable mobility

Question for written answer E-002133-18
to the Commission
Rule 130
Maria Gabriela Zoană (S&D)

The recent growth in urban areas in the Member States means that the relationship between urban and peri-urban areas will need to be reviewed in the near future. This is due to the rapid economic, demographic and cultural development of these areas, which are increasingly using local resources and moving towards self-reliance. They are increasingly becoming areas of choice, making it all the more necessary to seek new ways of developing sustainable and user‐friendly mobility for peri-urban areas.

Sustainable mobility is a major economic challenge, but one which can generate jobs through the development of new types of service and infrastructure models.

What strategy is the Commission considering to support Member States’ projects for improving connections and introducing new patterns of mobility between peri-urban and urban areas?
