E-000321-19
Question for written answer E-000321-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Matt Carthy (GUE/NGL)

 Subject:  China tariff rate quota
 Answer in writing

On 16 January 2019, Parliament approved a tariff rate quota for China for poultry. The negotiations preceding the agreement made no mention of animal welfare. Does the Commission agree, given China’s record of low animal welfare standards in the sector, that it is imperative that negotiations be opened to ensure that all poultry coming from China has been subject to animal welfare standards equivalent to those of the EU?
