 Subject:  Xylella fastidiosa — outbreak affecting economically important plants III
 Answer in writing 
Taking into account that:
Portugal officially informed the Commission of the presence of the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa in an ornamental plant in the garden of a zoo in Vila Nova de Gaia, specifically, the multiplex subspecies, associated with many species and genera of plants, including almond, olive and cork oak trees, and
The Xylella fastidiosa bacterium was found in the northern region of Portugal, a territory with significant crop production areas, including vines and kiwi, olive and almond crops, which are very important economically to Portuguese farming,
2. Will a financial compensation fund be set up with a view to minimising the losses of farmers and other economic operators? If so, how will it be applied?

1. What measures are being taken to prevent or reduce the spread of Xylella fastidiosa in northern Portugal and elsewhere in the country, particularly measures involving insect vectors?
