Question for written answer E-000888-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Liadh Ní Riada (GUE/NGL)

Subject:  Bycatch reduction plans and timeframe for STECF evaluation
 Answer in writing

The commitment to bycatch reduction plans sets a clear timeline — the Member States concerned will submit to the Commission bycatch reduction plans by 30 April 2019 — and makes it clear that these plans will contain measures such as more selective gears, area closures, real-time closures, avoidance measures and move-on rules.

How does the Commission intend to ensure that Member States deliver these plans and that the measures they propose will achieve the desired objective to reduce catches and overall fishing mortality, and by when will the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF) be able to evaluate proposed bycatch reduction plans?
