Question for written answer E-001106-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Hilde Vautmans (ALDE)

Subject:  Implementation of Implementing Decision (EU) 2017/302
 Answer in writing

Implementing Decision (EU) 2017/302 lays down best available techniques (BAT) for the intensive rearing of poultry and pigs. It stipulates, inter alia, that each Member State has to comply with emission standards in the case of pig houses with more than 2 000 places for production pigs (weighing over 30 kg) and poultry houses with more than 40 000 places for poultry. For example, it lays down BAT-associated emission levels (BAT-AELs) for ammonia emissions to air from each pig house, each house for laying hens and each house for broilers up to a maximum of 2.5 kg.

1. To what extent has this Implementing Decision actually been implemented by the Member States? Can the Commission give an overview of how this has been done in the Member States?

2. What is done to monitor the implementation of this Implementing Decision? Have any infringements been detected or reported?

3. Have any penalties been imposed and, if so, where and on what grounds?
