E-001573-19
Question for written answer E-001573-19
to the Commission
Rule 130
Nadine Morano (PPE)

Subject:  Combating illegal immigration and asylum abuse
 Answer in writing

The EU has recently announced the suspension of the naval component of Operation Sophia in the Mediterranean. This was a good decision, as EU rescue operations which delivered migrants to Europe’s shores had, unfortunately, become a magnet for illegal immigrants and a gift for smugglers.

We now need to go further in combating asylum abuse and stopping illegal immigration to Europe, for example by setting up facilities for processing asylum requests outside the EU (hotspots).

My question is this:

Will the Commission draw up a list of non-EU countries which have been called on to host such facilities and say which have said they are unhappy with this solution?
