E-001777-19
Question for written answer E-001777-19
to the Commission (Vice-President/High Representative)
Rule 130
Josef Weidenholzer (S&D)

Subject:  VP/HR — Iran Policy III
 Answer in writing

The permanent representatives of the UK, France and Germany to the United Nations have brought to the attention of the UN Security Council recent actions taken by Iran related to its ballistic missiles activities, as being inconsistent with Security Council resolution 2231 (2015).

While we share concerns about Iran’s ballistic missiles programme, we wish to point out that it was the US that violated resolution 2231 by withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and re-imposing nuclear-related sanctions that were removed as part of the agreement, which Iran has complied with.

Since saving the JCPOA is the official policy of the EU, does the VP/HR intend, in her capacity as the chair of the Joint Commission tasked with overseeing the implementation of the JCPOA, to bring the issue of the violation of the deal by the US to the attention of the UN Security Council?
