Regional disembarkation platforms

Question for written answer E-002505-19
to the Commission
Rule 138
Guido Reil (ID)

In June 2018, the European Council called on the Council and the Commission to swiftly explore, in close cooperation with relevant third countries, the UNHCR and the IOM, the concept of regional disembarkation platforms for migrants from Africa rescued at sea. The purpose of these platforms would be to ensure that no pull effect is created[1].

1. What progress has been made in developing this concept?

2. With what countries has the Commission conducted negotiations on establishing such platforms? What stage have the negotiations reached?
