Question for written answer E-003283-19
to the Commission
Rule 138
Pedro Marques (S&D)

 Subject:  Just Transition Fund
 Answer in writing

In their speeches delivered as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities, a number of representatives of regions, cities and municipalities emphasised the importance of a robust Cohesion Policy.

It should be stressed once again that this will only be possible if the European Council takes into account the position of the European Parliament, which advocates an ambitious budget for the next Multiannual Financial Framework.

The President-elect of the Commission recently announced the intention of creating a new Just Transition Fund for the next decade to support regions where the transition to a carbon-neutral economy is most challenging.

Given that this is undoubtedly a very important measure for a Europe facing a number of challenges in terms of climate change and technological change, but which cannot be done by cutting Cohesion Policy funding, can the Commission say:

Can it clarify whether the new priorities will be matched by new financial resources so as to ensure that Cohesion Policy has a budget compatible with its objectives?
